Owl & Mouse Software

I believe that learning phonics is critical for setting a foundation in reading. Owl and Mouse Educational Software provides some free programs that are just perfect for learning beginning sounds.

A voice on the computer will pronounce a word, such as “lollipop,” and then the child will have to drag the object over to one of three houses; for preschoolers, I recommend using the computer to develop hand-eye coordination. The first level has the “b” house, the “l” house, and the “r” house, enabling the child to work on three sounds at a time. The combination of seeing the pictures, hearing the words, and dragging the object to the correct letter helps the child to layer his or her learning in the area of beginning phonics.
